As I was writing the previous entry, a co-worker came up and asked us at the front desk, “How’s everyone doing today? Happy? Healthy? Spiritually satisfied?”
If God does exist, at least he has a sense of humor.

It's good to see that you're questioning christianity. It may be difficult and sometimes traumatic, but it's worth doing.
I myself am an atheist, and am constantly both frustrated and amused by christians and their exhortations for me to embrace a system of belief that is inconsistent and hippocritical, contradictory to my scientific education, and based on a history of misogyny, corruption, bigotry, intolerance and worse.
I would point you in the direction of Positive Atheism for revealing quotes and thinking material. The site maintainer often publishes correspondance between himself and aggrieved christians, many of which are quite funny, but also show how narrowly some christians are in their thinking. (The site design isn't great, but don't let that put you off.)
Anyways, I wish you the best. You can live a positive and worthwhile existance without religion. If you'd like to open a dialogue, drop me a line at my blog, The Incomer.
Best Regards,
J.L.
This whole process is definitely bittersweet, because I have a deep fondness and respect for many Christians, for much of the belief system and its applications to daily life. I certainly understand your frustrations - sometimes I have wanted to throw hymnals at people who are self-professed representatives of the faith but are at worst devastating to the whole community and at best asinine. (That one's for you, Pat Robertson.)
Anyway, thanks again, and I'll be in touch.
Peace.
